In 2008, LRA combatants committed mass atrocities against civilians in retaliation for OLT. More than 1,000 men, women, and children were brutally killed in less than one month in the DRC and southern Sudan in what became known as the Christmas Massacres. Less than one year later, 321 people were killed and 250 abducted by the LRA in the DRC over a period of four days, known as the Makombo Massacre.
