Building a Better Response: Ukrainian and Polish e-Learning Translations

The crisis in Ukraine and the surrounding region is of a size and scope that has required a rapid and intensive scaling up of aid providers to meet the needs of the affected people and communities. More than 200 humanitarian actors – over half of whom are Ukrainian non-governmental organizations – are responding inside the country with lifesaving interventions. National and international organizations are also working to assist the millions of refugees in neighboring countries. Operating in a complex humanitarian emergency of this nature necessitates that all actors engaged in the response understand the core principles, standards, and laws that lay the groundwork for humanitarian action.

The Building a Better Response Project (BBR), has provided training on these core topics to more than 80,000 humanitarians working in nearly every humanitarian setting over the past decade. In support of those responding to the Ukraine crisis, the project is now making available several key modules of its e-learning tool in Ukrainian and Polish: The Foundations of Humanitarian Action and International Law and Humanitarian Standards. Users will have the ability to access these through any digital device (computer, phone, tablet etc.) to ensure that those on the front lines of the crisis have the resources they need to deliver a more effective and efficient response. Ukrainian translations of additional modules on the international humanitarian coordination system will be launched in the coming weeks.

Current Modules Translated into Ukrainian and Polish:

  • Module 1: Foundations of Humanitarian Action
  • Module 2: The International Humanitarian Coordination System
  • Module 5: International Law and Humanitarian Standards

The Building a Better Response Project is implemented in consortium by International Medical Corps, Concern Worldwide and the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative with the generous support of the US Agency for International Development’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance. In addition to these newly developed resources, the BBR e-learning is offered in Arabic, English, and French with users in 190 countries. E-learning course materials are also available in Russian and 12 other languages. The project’s resources are free and available to the public and can be found at https://www.buildingabetterresponse.org/
