Irene Yuan SUN is a practitioner and author focused on creating economic opportunity to underserved populations such as refugees, migrants, and the bottom-of-the-pyramid populations in developing countries.

Previously, Irene was an Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company, where she specialized in global public health and economic development projects in developing countries.  She led the development of McKinsey’s report on the Africa-China economic relationship, Dance of the Lions & Dragons, which collected the largest-ever dataset about the size and characteristics of Chinese business in Africa.

Irene’s book about Chinese investment in Africa, The Next Factory of the World, was named by the Financial Times as one of the best business books of the year in 2017.  Irene’s work on Africa-China economic relations has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the Harvard Business Review, Quartz, the Nigerian Guardian, and CGTN (formerly known as CCTV).

Irene is a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Business School, and Harvard Kennedy School.
