 Maria is a social science researcher focused on creating justice and social peace by studying gender-based and domestic-related violence issues. Her expertise includes preventing violence against children, adolescents, and women. Maria was the president and founder of Research and Psychosocial Intervention, an NGO dedicated to strengthening human rights for youth and children. Maria directed the Citizen Security Observatory of the Municipality of Querétaro, Mexico, where she monitored crime and violence indicators in the region. Recently, Dr. Meza has been researching the working conditions in Mexico's children's foster care system. For her work, she has received one of the five 2022 grants awarded in Latin America by CLACSO-UN WOMEN. At HHI, Maria's research concentrates on understanding social cohesion in the migration crisis. She earned her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and then finished her post-doctoral research at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She is currently a Professor at the Autonomous University of Querétaro, Mexico. Maria was a visiting scientist with the Gender, Rights, and Resilience Program.
