Maya James is a Spring–Summer 2021 student research assistant for HHI’s Peace and Human Rights Data Program-“Developing and Using Indicator Frameworks for Locally Led Peacebuilding in Central Africa". She has previously worked for the World Bank Group, Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs, and the Oslo Women’s Rights Initiative, which amplifies the work of civil society leaders in the MENA region.

Maya is a first-year MTS candidate in Religion, Ethics, and Politics at Harvard Divinity School, where she studies community-led peacebuilding and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) initiatives. She believes that empowering civil societies to determine their own futures is the most sustainable form of peacebuilding and is excited to support HHI’s efforts in central Africa.
