Shanghai Monitoring and Evaluation Workshop Course Information

Welcome

We are very excited to welcome you to the Monitoring and Evaluation for Humanitarian Programs Workshop in Shanghai, China. We are eager to meet you all and to begin our workshop. Housing, Food + Transportation

Please note that participants are asked to pay for their own housing, meals, and transportation during the workshop at the Harvard Center Shanghai. We will be providing you with a lunch break each day, and we will be finished before dinner. See below for more information:

 The Harvard Center Shanghai is located in a business building called the Shanghai IFC that contains offices and a mall with food options for lunch. 

Visas + Visa Support Letters

It is recommended that participants start the visa process as soon as possible. Per the Center's practice, participants can apply standard tourist visa for their short stay in China. If supplementary documents are required, HHI or CGPI, as legal organizers of the workshop, may provide that. If you need a visa support document from HHI, please email us at hhievaluationcourse@gmail.com with your request and your passport information.

Hotel Recommendations

We are excited to welcome you to Shanghai! Here are some options that we recommend for your stay:

Hotel: Ritz-Carlton Pudong

(In the same building, 2 mins walking distance)

Hotel: IFC Residence

(In the same building, 5 mins walking distance)

Hotel: Shangri-La, Pudong

(Across the street, 5 mins walking distance)

 Hotel: Mandarin Oriental, Pudong

(20 mins walking distance, 5 mins driving distance & free shuttle bus offered)

 

**Transportation Directions if you're staying at in the Ritz Carlton or IFC Residence (same location as our workshop)**

Directions from Pudong airport:

By taxi, it usually takes 45 minutes without traffic to get to the IFC Building. Please note there may be a taxi waiting-line at the airport from 7 to 10 pm.

By public transportation, it usually takes one hour to get to the IFC Building. Take Shanghai Maglev Demonstration Line from the airport directly to Longyang Station, then exchange Line 2 to Lujiazui Station.

Directions from Hongqiao airport:

By taxi, it takes around one hour to get the the IFC Building.

By public transportation, it takes around one hour on the metro to get to the IFC Building. Take the Line 2  from the stop at Terminal 2 of Hongqiao airport to Lujiazui Station. 

The Ritz-Carlton offers flexible transportation services within the city. If you’d like to have pick-up service, please email us and we will connect you to the Harvard Center Shanghai to get a quote.

Food

Lunch Options

Please note that participants are asked to pay for their own meals during from the workshop at the Harvard Center of Shanghai. We will be providing you with time for a lunch break each day, and we will be finished before dinner. It is suggested that participants eat any breakfast before arriving to the workshop each day.

The Harvard Center Shanghai is located in a business building called the Shanghai IFC with offices and a mall. 

The IFC Mall contains many restaurants and a food court. The food court is a more affordable option in the building with an estimated cost of around $10-20 USD for lunch per person. There is also a food court based in the Super Brand Mall, across the street (5 mins walking distance, see map) which is another option to explore.

Foreign participants are advised to have some pocket RMB cash on them in case they need it to pay for lunch. (Most shops and counters in the IFC building can accept foreign credit cards but a few may not).

Directions

Location + Transportation

The Harvard Shanghai Center is located on the 5th Floor of the HSBC building portion of the larger Shanghai IFC Building. The Shanghai IFC Building has multiple parts including the mall with food for lunch. Once you are around the IFC buildings, feel free to approach any concierge and security staff to get directions to HSBC building.

Closest Public Transportation Hub: Take Line 2 to Lujiazui Station.
