The ruthless drivers of climate change, armed conflict, and natural disasters have sparked wave after wave of humanitarian crises — and at times, it’s too easy to dismiss the consequences. Journalist Heba Aly will not allow such complacency. As CEO of The New Humanitarian, an independent nonprofit, Aly leads a newsroom that delivers high-impact journalism from the heart of crises, amplifying voices of those in need and those who seek to help. In this fireside chat, she will discuss the power of storytelling in impacting change on a global scale. She will share her personal experience reporting from conflict zones as well as her leadership of The New Humanitarian, which is transforming coverage of global crises. Aly and her newsroom are the recipients of the 2023 Elisabeth B. Weintz Humanitarian Award from the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative.
