2025-2026 HHI Student Funding Opportunities at the Intersection of Humanitarianism and Native American & Indigenous Communities

Award recipients are required to: 

  • Acknowledge HHI’s contribution on published materials and other publicity.
  • Submit a written report upon completion that may be used by HHI and HUNAP for communications purposes on social media, reports, website, and other platforms.
  • Be in good academic standing.

 

  1. Grants for HHI Humanitarian Studies Concentration Students

HHI strives to educate the next generations of humanitarian leaders. In line with this mission, HHI typically offers two Spark Grants per year to Harvard graduate students enrolled in the Humanitarian Studies Concentration at Harvard Chan to help support their humanitarian-related research or practicum projects. 

During the academic year 2025-2026, HHI will award two additional Spark Grants for projects or research dedicated at the intersection of humanitarianism and Native American & Indigenous communities to promote interdisciplinary collaboration throughout Harvard. 

  • Amount: $10,000 ($5,000 x 2 students)
  • Number of awards: 2
  • Eligibility: Any Harvard graduate student enrolled in the Humanitarian Studies Concentration at Harvard Chan to conduct a project or research at the intersection of humanitarianism and Native American and Indigenous communities. Selection process will follow HHI’s established process for Spark Grants.

  1. Humanitarianism and Native American & Indigenous Communities Funding for Harvard Students

HHI is pleased to announce student support for research and travel related to projects at the intersection of humanitarianism and Native American and Indigenous communities. HHI is collaborating with the Harvard University Native American Program (HUNAP) to design and disseminate these opportunities and jointly review applications and select finalists. 

  1. Research
  • Amount: $12,000 ($2,000 x 6 projects)
  • Number of awards: 6
  • Eligibility: Any Harvard student to conduct research on a topic and/or fieldwork leading to the fulfillment of a course-related research paper, degree requirements, and/or advancement to doctoral candidacy at the intersection of humanitarianism and Native American and Indigenous communities.
  • Application process: Please email HUNAP at hunap@harvard.edu to request a grant application. HHI and HUNAP will jointly review applications and select finalists.
  • Application deadline:
    • Fall/J-Term Semester: September 30th
    • Spring Semester: February 16th
    • Summer Semester: April 30th 

 

  1. Travel support
  • Amount: $6,000 ($1,500 x 4 students)
  • Number of awards: 4
  • Eligibility: Any Harvard student to attend a national/regional/local conference in order to participate in a panel or present on topics at the intersection of humanitarianism and Native American and Indigenous communities.
  • Application process: Fill out application form found here and on the HHI website under News. HHI and HUNAP will jointly review applications and select finalists. If accepted, funds will be dispensed upfront, not as reimbursement.
