Killiam A. Argote-Araméndiz, MD, MSc, FIBODM

Killiam Argote-Araméndiz is a Colombian specialist in Emergency and Disaster Medicine with an MSc in International Humanitarian Affairs. He trained in Emergency Medicine in Colombia before completing the Fellowship in Disaster Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. He is currently a Prajna Fellow and Doctor of Public Health candidate at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

He has nearly two decades of clinical, academic, and humanitarian experience, including over six years with the International Committee of the Red Cross in complex humanitarian settings, including Afghanistan, Gaza, Ukraine, Lebanon, Venezuela, and Honduras. His work has ranged from frontline emergency care and mass-casualty response to humanitarian health program management, emergency preparedness, prehospital and emergency care systems, and health systems strengthening. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine.

His interests center on humanitarian crisis leadership and on how emergency and humanitarian responses can be better led, organized, and sustained, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected settings. He is interested in combining field practice, research, and teaching to strengthen the humanitarian sector and help develop a more prepared and capable next generation of emergency response leaders.
