Indigenous Health Disparities

HHI’s program on Indigenous Health Disparities includes various ongoing projects and seeks to improve the health of indigenous communities and eliminate existing health disparities. This is achieved by developing partnerships to support and foster clinical exchanges, educational programs, health policy, research, and healthcare pipeline programs. Indigenous communities face challenging economic, environmental, and political conditions and are vastly underserved with well documented health disparities including lower overall health status, lower life expectancy, and disproportionate disease burden. These health disparities were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of this program is to collaborate and synergize with key stakeholders to expand clinical capacity, improve the quality of care for indigenous communities, and sponsor programs for indigenous students pursuing careers in healthcare.
